About Hugh

Hugh Rowlands is Assistant Master of Music and Organist at HM Chapels Royal, The Tower of London. Based in London, he is sought after as a pianist, organist and conductor.

In 2024, Hugh will release his first album of solo organ music, recorded on the Klais Organ of Haileybury College. As a solo organist, he has performed at major venues across the UK, including Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral and at the St Alban’s International Organ Festival.

Hugh is a member of the James McVinnie ensemble. Recent engagements included a performances at the Barbican, the Royal Festival Hall, Saffron Hall, and at Bold Tendencies, Peckham.

He frequently collaborates with choirs and ensembles. He has recorded on the SOMM and Albion labels with the Choir of the Royal Hospital Chelsea and appeared as soloist alongside the early music ensemble, Alamire, at the Tage Alter Musik Festival, Regensburg. He has appeared with the London Contemporary Orchestra at London’s Union Chapel, and the Icelandic duo Jònsi and Alex, with the LCO, at London’s Barbican Centre and the Paris Philharmonie.

Hugh is a graduate of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, where he was Organ Scholar and Fellow of the Royal College of Organists. He was Deputy Director of Music at Haileybury College from 2021 – 2024, leading the Chamber Choir on tours to Australia, Malaysia and Italy. He continues his studies as a Collaborative Pianist at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
